Dubai: Every Emirati citizen who travels abroad is an ambassador of the country and should display exemplary behaviour that reflects the UAE’s culture and values, the UAE Vice-President said Sunday.
His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said this while receiving at Zabeel Palace UAE Ambassadors to friendly and sisterly countries and representatives to international organisations who came to greet him on the occasion of Ramadan.
Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, and Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, were present.
Shaikh Mohammad exchanged greetings with the ambassadors on the occasion of Ramadan, and wished them success in their duties to serve the nation and citizens, and to be upright ambassadors who convey a civilised image of the UAE.
Shaikh Mohammad praised the performance of the ambassadors, pointing to the monthly reports he receives regarding the achievements of the diplomatic corps in enhancing the UAE’s bilateral relations and cooperation with brotherly and friendly countries, as well as the advice and assistance they provide for Emirati tourists, students and those seeking medical treatment abroad.
Shaikh Mohammad stressed the importance of communication between the UAE embassies and citizens of all segments. He said this helps facilitate the duties of ambassadors and embassy staff in following up on the affairs of Emiratis abroad, and assisting them in every way possible in any situation.
Educational success
Shaikh Mohammad reaffirmed that it is important for every Emirati citizen travelling abroad to act as an ambassador and to adopt good behaviour that reflects the UAE people’s culture and values.
Shaikh Mohammad said that it also applies to Emirati students studying in foreign and Arab universities abroad, adding that Emirati students receive all forms of care and support from the UAE leadership to ensure their educational success.
Shaikh Mohammad expressed his satisfaction with the efforts exerted by Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, the diplomatic corps, and Foreign Ministry officials and staff regarding their work in raising the UAE’s standing and reputation, and promoting its economy and tourism sectors.
Later they attended Maghrib prayers and iftar banquet. Other Shaikhs and senior officials were also present.
