Abu Dhabi: If a child had registered with the population register when the ID card was not mandatory for children a year ago, an ID number certificate should be submitted along with the other required official documents for registration.

The ID number certificate can be obtained at any Emirates ID registration centre without an appointment and free of charge.

If the child had an ID card which has already expired, that card should be submitted for renewal. If the child has already turned 15 years of age, he or she should visit a registration centre for fingerprinting, after submitting the documents at a typing centre and obtaining an appointment.

The authority reiterated that children do not need to visit a typing centre or authority’s registration centre to complete the registration.

Parents can do it at a typing centre by submitting the required documents.

The documents required for Emirati children are: an original passport, an original summary of civil status [family book], the father’s or mother’s ID card and a personal photo of the child with a white background.

For expatriate children, apart from valid original passport, the father’s or mother’s ID card and a personal photo with a white background have to be submitted.
