Appointment of first two women envoys approved

Abu Dhabi: The appointment of the first two Emirati female ambassadors in the UAE's history has been approved by the Cabinet on Monday.
Meanwhile, President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan yesterday received His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Iftar banquet
They discussed issues of national interest in the presence of General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Sup-reme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Shaikh Khalifa hosted an Iftar banquet for his guests.
The Cabinet, in a meeting chaired by Shaikh Mohammad yesterday, approved a memo from Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, on the appointment, promotion and transfer of ambassadors, including the appointment of the UAE's first two female Ambassadors.
The move, which included more than 26 ambassadors and heads of diplom-atic missions, is the biggest in the history of UAE diplomacy.
Shaikh Mohammad hailed the appointment of the female ambassadors, saying it enhances the active participation of UAE women in national work.
He stressed his encouragement for this step, which mirrors the leadership's vision of acknowledging the other half of society as a full partner enjoying the same national, religious and moral rights and duties as men.
FNC memo reviewed
The Cabinet reviewed a memo from the Federal National Council concerning the main policies of the Interior Ministry and other government departments and took appropriate decisions in that regard.
It also discussed a draft law regulating media activities and approved the UAE joining the International Search and Rescue System and an agreement signed by the UAE and Yemen, regulating land transfer of passengers and cargo.
