Ramallah: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas yesterday held talks with visiting UAE Foreign Minister Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss the latest Arab and international efforts to bring about stability in Palestine and close ranks of Palestinian people.

The UAE minister is in Ramallah to attend the closing ceremony of celebrating occupied Jerusalem as the capital of Arab culture.

"The UAE backs efforts the Palestinian National Authority is exerting to fulfill aspirations of the Palestinian people for establishing its independent state with [occupied] Jerusalem as its capital.

"The UAE is also working with its brethren to advance efforts for reaching a just, quick and comprehensive settlement [colony] that maintains security and stability for the peoples of the region and future generations," Shaikh Abdullah affirmed.

For his part, the Palestinian president paid a rich tribute to President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his unstinted support for the Palestinian people.

He also hailed the UAE for extending financial assistance through the Paris economic conference and other channels of aid. He said the Palestinian community in the UAE was receiving good treatment and care.

He also lauded Arab delegates participating in the ceremony, saying the holy city is in bad need of Arab and international support.
