The UAE's first Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Saif Saeed Gobash was assassinated in Abu Dhabi in 1977.
The fatal shots were aimed at the visiting Syrian Foreign Minister Abdul Halim Khadam.
Gobash was instrumental in introducing the UAE to the international level and was able to do so successfully through his many global relationships and his vast knowledge of world cultures, history and politics.
Born in Ras Al Khaimah, Gobash studied and worked in many countries including Bahrain, Iraq, Egypt, Vienna, Germany and France.
