Dubai: A 3D animation video chronicling the most important achievements of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was launched on Monday.
Titled Journey, the seven-and-a-half minute video was launched via Shaikh Mohammad’s official website and official YouTube Channel by the Government of Dubai Media Office (DGMO).
The video, available in Arabic and English, takes viewers back to 1949 to Shaikh Mohammad’s birth and then his early childhood in Al Shindagha through the positions he held as Chief of Dubai Police and Public Security in 1969, as Defence Minister in 1973, before assuming the post of Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai in 2006.
The video also takes viewers on a tour of Dubai during the 1960s and until the emirate’s development and modernisation in the 1970s. Among these key achievements are the opening of Port Rashid in 1972, the establishment of Al Jaddaf area in 1977, construction of Dubai World Trade Centre in 1978, opening of the Jebel Ali Port in 1979, launch of Emirates airline in 1985, and the launch of the Dubai Shopping Festival in 1996.
The video map covers a wide range of economic, social, cultural as well as sports achievements of Dubai told through pictures as it transformed from a sleepy emirate to a modern cosmopolitan city that’s home to close to 200 nationalities.
”Using 3D graphics, The Journey has been created in the form of an electronic map, which navigates users to sites that were the scene of the most important achievements associated with His Highness’ name. The 3D technology has been combined with a rare collection of photographs, in addition to clips related to the key events covered in this journey, which abounds with successes and achievements,” said Mona Al Merri, DGMO Director-General.
Arranged in an ascending order, the achievements highlighted in the video provide viewers with a visual tour of Dubai’s achievements that have been made under Shaikh Mohammad’s guidance, supervision and follow-up in all fields — be it economic, cultural or sports or areas of humanitarian work and volunteering.
The video depicts how Dubai evolved into a knowledge-based economy that brought about a group of qualitative and huge projects, which made Dubai a unique model in the areas of growth and development in the Arab region.
Some major projects in this period include the launch of the Dubai Quality Award in 1994, the Dubai Government Excellence Award in 1997, and Dubai Internet City in 1999.
The video also traces the construction of the world’s only seven-star hotel on a man-made island, the Burj Al Arab, that opened in 1999.
Navigating between time and place, the work also showcases the launch of the Dubai International Financial Centre in 2002, and the opening of Palm Jumeirah in 2008.
It also features major development projects in Dubai such as the opening of the world’s longest driverless Metro network, the Dubai Metro, in 2009, and the world’s tallest man-made structure, Burj Khalifa.
Finally, the video concludes with a forward-looking achievement of Dubai when it won the right to host the World Expo 2020, its most important achievement for 2013. The event will create a lasting legacy for more than two billion people who live in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia region.
