Ajman: Ajman Municipality and the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will sign an agreement to launch a water taxi service to link the two emirates.

The Ajman-Dubai water taxi service will help ease traffic congestion between the emirates and is hoped to boost tourism sectors in both emirates.

The project is part of the municipality's strategy aimed at improving its services, enhancing its partnerships with other entities and providing best services and facilities to the public, said Engineer Mohammad Omar Al Muhairi, Director of the Planning and Survey Department at Ajman Municipality.

The municipality had earlier submitted a proposal to the RTA, which accepted the project and welcomed its implementation under a cooperation deal with the Ajman civil body.

The new water taxi service will become operational by the middle of the next year, with over one million commuters expected to be transported annually.

Upon a request by RTA, the municipality has chosen two locations to build taxi stops — the Ajman Corniche and the Fish Market.

Access

The stops will be easily accessible to commuters from several parts of the emirate and will be equipped with air-conditioning and vender machines.

The project aims to develop the areas around the taxi stops, in which restaurants, cafeterias and other outlets will be constructed to attract investors.
