Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) requested the traders and importers to be aware of some hazelnut products which may contain bacteria and Spanish eggs which might be infected by a new strain of bird flu.

The authority is not sure about the presence of such products in Abu Dhabi market yet, but inspectors have intensified the inspections to ensure it, said a statement issued by ADFCA.

The hazelnut brands such as Oregon hazelnut, Canadian hazelnut and Firstone Farms may have salmonella bacteria according to a warning issued by FDA (US Food and Drug Administration).

The products manufactured between October 12 and November 25 might be contaminated, according to FDA.

Spanish eggs are being tested as Spanish chicken has been infected with a new strain of bird flu - H7N7. Sevral countries have banned the import of the Spanish poultry but no such decision has been taken in the UAE, said the statement.
