Dubai: You can get drinking water literally out of thin air at the touch of a button.
The WaterMaker is one of the few machines that does exactly that and is headed for UAE homes and offices soon. It turns moist air into clean water by cooling and filtering the invisible dampness in the space around us.

It has been busy filling up cups for curious visitors at Dubai's Wetex show - the Water Technology, Energy and Environment Exhibition - which ends today. "Incredibly, the technology is actually around 2,000 years old," said Nimish Arora, WaterMaker's Head of Marketing.
"It works on the condensation process, which the ancient Egyptians used, to draw water out of humid air by collecting dew off cool objects. The WaterMaker [however] does it all day long."
Simple to use
One of its household models - expected to cost Dh4,400 once the Indian company ties up with a local distributor - can pump out nearly 30 litres per day.
"The evening air is humid here, that means more water in, more water out of the machine. It's simple to use, just plug and play," Arora said.
The machine runs on electric power, using a "cost-effective" 260 watts per hour.
