Dubai: More than 1,000 volunteers took part in a campaign to clean the bottom of the creek on Thursday.

Dubai Municipality organised the large-scale campaign called "Marasina" under the auspices of Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, aimed at raising awareness and educating the public, especially sailors, boat owners, marine personnel, workers of shipping companies and oil tankers and fishermen as well as students about the importance of preserving the marine environment.

The campaign highlighted the problems of the marine environment and sought to protect it by intensifying efforts to keep it clean and prevent it from any contamination with the participation of different community members of different nationalities and groups to clean up and recycle the waste recovered from the bottom of the creek.

This was stated by Hamdan Al Shaer, Director of the Environment Department of Dubai Municipality, who added that the campaign is being organised by Dubai Municipality for the fifth consecutive year.

Diving Association

The programme was launched with the cooperation of Emirates Diving Association and marine workers, with more than 1,000 volunteers participating.

He added that the campaign stems from the belief of Dubai Municipality that the sea is integrated environmental system must be protected from any devastating damage to its living creatures, which may affect humans.

The opening ceremony included the launch of the cleaning of the bottom of Dubai Creek's, and the opening of an exhibition on the environment, which displayed photos of the impact of marine pollution on creatures, and displayed some traditional marine equipment and the role of ancestors in preserving the marine environment.
