Dubai: Dubai will once again demonstrate its pride in the country as it plans to design 43 UAE flags made of flowering plants around the city for a world record attempt in time for the country’s 43rd National Day celebrations.

The Public Parks and Horticulture Department of Dubai Municipality said the 43 UAE flags will be “planted” throughout the city to mark the UAE’s 43rd founding anniversary on December 2. The project is also an attempt to set a Guinness World record in the category of largest flag made of flowers.

“Dubai has already achieved a Guinness World record in using flowers and plants to design the logos of international events hosted by the city of Dubai on different occasions,” said Mohammad Abdul Rahman Al Awadi, head of the agriculture section at the municipality.

“The department has written welcome banners for visitors to the city in both Arabic and English on many occasions including, but not limited to, the first grass design at the roundabout of the commercial centre in 1986 on the occasion of the Chess Olympiad in Dubai, which included ‘Welcome to Dubai’ in Arabic and English with the Olympics logo using plants, Horse Race roundabout in Nad Al Sheba, Flowers roundabout on Al Saif street, Expo 2020 logo in the UAE flag on the Al Garhoud intersection, and Expo 2020 logo in the green area of Al Rabat Road opposite Toyota showroom,” he added.

Based on the design specifications, the proposed UAE flag will be planted using 45,660 seedlings of different flowering plants to cover an area of 2,026 square metres.

Earlier, a special team from the agricultural section of the department planted Dubai’s Expo 2020 logo spanning 908 square metres and using 27,240 seedlings of various coloured flowers.
