Airport officials told UAE passengers not to fear delays even though many services are being rerouted to avoid Gonu.
Muscat's Seeb International Airport is closed until 11am tomorrow, affecting services from the UAE by Oman Air, Emirates and Etihad, among others.
Passengers are being contacted by airlines and offered the chance to rebook their flights to and from Oman for a later date.
Fujairah International Airport was closed yesterday. Many flights from the UAE's other airports to the Indian subcontinent and other points east are being forced to take alternative routes in order to avoid the storm.
Shamma Lootah, a spokeswoman for Dubai International Airport, said that passengers should not expect delays. "In these cases [where flight routes are changed], pilots normally speed up the flight in order to keep to the scheduled time of arrival," she said.
