Sharjah: Two nature reserve areas, Al Qurm and Al Hafiya, were recently fenced off in Kalba by the directorate of Public Works of Sharjah, in coordination with the Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPPA).

The fencing aims to protect the area and attract tourists

The project falls within the framework of the directives of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to maintain and protect nature reserves.
The fencing project cost Dh4.5 million. The fencing work comes within the project Kalba for eco-tourism projects, which aims to preserve natural resources and turn them into tourist sites in the emirate.
Sulaiman Al Hajiri, Director of Roads Projects Department at the Directorate said that “the city of Kalba is characterised by the beauty of its mountains and good climate. In addition to historical depth, its natural reserves are a great refuge for different kinds of animals and birds and a tourist attraction.”
Al Hajiri added that the fencing of these reserves will help achieve the strategic objectives of the EPPA to protect the natural environment and increase the numbers of endangered species to prevent environmental degradation in the emirate.
