Dubai: The Dubai Municipality on Wednesday issued a notice to around 310 owners of temporary winter tents to remove them from desert camping areas by April 30, or they will be demolished.

Khalid Mohammad Saleh, director of Buildings Department at Dubai Municipality, said: “If the owners fail to respond to the notice before the end of the month, Dubai Municipality will demolish and safely remove the tents using its machinery, but owners will have to bear the cost.”

The designated winter camping sites are in Wadi Al Amerdi, Wadi Al Shabak, Al Warqa’a, and Al Khawaneej 2.

The civic body started issuing permits to set up temporary winter camps in desert areas in October last year. These are valid till April and owners cannot use more than 400 square metres.

In winter, whem many families head to the desert with their families, Dubai Municipality carried out a number of inspections to ensure that owners follow the necessary requirements, such as not setting up gas cylinders outside their tents, or leaving burning charcoal on the ground.

During last year’s inspections, as many as 185 tents were removed for violating rules, and for setting up camps without obtaining a proper licence.

Spotlights and amplifiers should not be used as it disturbs other camp users, and in the incident that any of the above mentioned rules are breached, the deposit of Dh2,000 shall be used in such incidents.
