Abu Dhabi:  The Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) has partnered with the Department of Transport (DoT) in an initiative to encourage people to vote for Bu Tinah Island, as one of the new seven Wonders of Nature.

A fleet of 14 public buses, enveloped completely in the campaign's messages, have been capturing people's attention on the streets of Abu Dhabi and the remaining emirates. Seven of these public buses follow Abu Dhabi city routes, while the other seven public buses roam the remainder of the UAE.

Majid Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of EAD, said: "Throughout the ‘Vote Bu Tinah! Campaign', our strategy has been to captivate, inspire and educate people about the Island in order to activate their vote.

"Having our campaign message on these buses has proven to be an effective way of captivating the public's attention and we are thankful to the Department of Transport for their cooperation in this nationally and ecologically important campaign."

In March 2010, EAD launched an international campaign to encourage people to vote for Bu Tinah Island, as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. Bu Tinah Island was shortlisted among 28 finalists from a list of 447 sites and the New 7 Wonders of Nature will be declared on November 11, 2011.

The campaign was launched under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of EAD.

Bu Tinah Island, located around 130 kilometres west of Abu Dhabi, is a unique island and a core area of the Marawah Marine Biosphere Reserve.
