Abu Dhabi: The Festival at Masdar City — a two-day celebration of sustainability for the whole family — attracted thousands of residents to Abu Dhabi’s low-carbon urban development.

The event was part of this year’s Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. The Festival aimed to encourage residents of all ages to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle, while offering an opportunity to spend the weekend at one of the world’s most sustainable developments.

Its unique theme and activities were aimed at inspiring and educating children and families. The features include an exhibition area showcasing home solutions for sustainable living, eco-stores selling organic arts and crafts, food stalls as well as live music and entertainment for all ages.

The activities helped engage children in scientific activity, and encouraged them to invent ways to conserve energy or utilise alternative energy sources.

An Earth Awareness Workshop was held to allow participants to understand the basics of water pollution, acid rain and the greenhouse effect.

There was also a garbage workshop that offered an introduction to improving the state of the environment through waste reduction and the concepts of reduce, reuse and recycle.

Masdar City is located 17km from downtown Abu Dhabi and a short drive from Yas Island, Saadiyat Island and Al Raha.
