Dubai/Al Ain: Dubai and adjoining emirates were lashed by heavy rain late Wednesday and Thursday morning.

Residents of Satwa and Bur Dubai reported seeing hail stones.

The meteorology centre also reported heavy rain in Masafi and some areas of Sharjah. Earlier in the day the temperature rose to 38 degrees Celsius in Dubai.

A senior forecaster at the Dubai Meteorological Department said it is not the all-time high temperature in Dubai as it had risen to 43 degrees Celsius a few years ago.

Meteorologists said the high temperatures were due to a new weather system developing in eastern Saudi Arabia. The system hit the emirates causing rain and thunderstorms.

In Oman, the Meteorology Department issued a warning of unstable weather conditions in the north, especially in Musandam where high waves are expected.

Rains and hails are amazing but the floods are really annoying especially inside the apartment due to the windows/doors fixing.

Be cool. It is much better to have these rains coming to UAE than the Sun which will give a very hot environment.

My friend and I were doing yoga at another friend's place and we saw flashes of lightning through the window but didnt bother to check what it could be. When we finished and came down it was hailing and there were strong winds and heavy rain! We still walked or rather ran back to our house and were drenched in no time. But we enjoyed! I'm sure everyone who saw us from their balconies thought we were crazy!

The Hili district of Al Ain has been devasted by a hail storm last night. Hundreds of trees are damaged or blown done. Leaves blocked the drains. Every petal has been stripped off the flowers. Yet only a few kilometers away in the city centre there were only a few drops of rain.
