Dubai: An inter-active computer game has motivated Majid Ahmad, a 14-year-old blind boy and many other children to care of their environment and fight pollution.

The game, Beati Watani or My Environment, My Country, is an educational game that has become popular among schoolchildren and takes players on a journey with two main characters, a boy and a girl.

As the games progresses, children learn about the UAE habitat and environmental issues both in the UAE and globally.

Managing waste

The bilingual game has eight levels and makes players aware on how to manage waste and tackle climate change. The online game has reached a million pupils so far and 180 schools have signed up to access it.

Educating future decision-makers of the country will help ensure that they make better and informed choices, said Rashmi De Roy, senior manager for education at Emirates Wildlife Society-WWF, which pioneered the game.

Ahmad now fervently believes in a cleaner environment.

"I like my country…I don't like it if it is dirty around me. It makes me feel relaxed," he said as he takes a waste bag and goes around his farm to clean up.
