Fujairah: The east coast will have its first energy-efficient mall in early 2012.

The Dh400 million Fujairah City Centre will be located on the intersection of the new Fujairah-Dubai Highway and the existing Masafi Highway at the entrance to Fujairah city.

The mall is targeting to get a Gold Leed (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating in accordance with the US Green Building certification.

Should the centre achieve its target, it will become the first building in the UAE to achieve a Leed rating.

The rating system has four certification levels for new construction: Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum that correspond to the number of credits accrued in five green design categories - sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources and indoor environmental quality.

So far, 100 of the 105 retail outlets, including Carrefour hypermarket and other signature brand outlets, have confirmed their lease.

"Fujairah City Centre will provide a boost to the underserviced retail landscape in Fujairah by providing high quality and unique shopping and entertainment experience for the growing community," said asset director Yousuf Al Ali.
