Dubai: The east coast port of Fujairah re-opened yesterday (Thursday) morning, and Abu Dhabi Port confirmed that it did not receive any ships that redirected its route as a result of cyclone Gonu.

Fujairah Port re-opened at 8am yesterday and resumed its operations as scheduled, according to Captain Musa Murad, General Manager of Fujairah Port. However, outside operations have been put on hold until further notice.

"Ship-to-ship transfers are on hold, and all outside operations have stopped until the wind calms down," he said. "None of the ships suffered any damage and everything is fine."

Abu Dhabi Port did not receive ships that were redirected from the east coast, although it was prepared to accommodate additional ships that were scheduled to call at Oman, Khor Fakkan and Fujairah.

"Most of the vessels have been redirected to India Access, because access to the Strait of Hormuz has been closed and operations have been put on hold," said Mohammad Al Mannai, chief executive officer of Abu Dhabi Terminals.

A source at Jebel Ali Port said that they are ready to receive 77 ships at once in any given time, but did not receive additional ships on Wednesday night. No losses of containers were reported and operations continued as normal.
