Dubai: A carbon neutral coffee-table book put together to showcase sustainability efforts by companies based in the UAE will be launched in February at a gala dinner.

Clean UAE aims to be the region's first carbon neutral book after all emissions caused in creating it will be offset through projects in the Gulf, said Lisa Durante, Managing Group Editor of GVP Media. The projects have not yet been identified.

The book will contain about 20 entries from companies that have adopted environmental, social and corporate governance in their businesses.

Environmental, social and corporate governance, also known as ESG, are three main areas of concern that have developed as central factors in measuring the sustainability and ethical impact of an investment in a company or business.

Half of the book will highlight some of the environmental problems faced by the UAE and their solutions.

The book will not be a business directory, she added. "It is a way for companies to think in terms of ESG and find inspiration from each other."

Clean UAE will be an annual publication and versions focusing on Saudi Arabia and Bahrain will be launched next year.

Cynthia McKinney, a former US presidential candidate in the 2008 elections and US congresswoman known for her human rights work and peace activism, will be the keynote speaker at the launch.

The book has been two years in the making and will feature varying qualities of ESG in the UAE.
