Vocational institute opens job avenues for UAE nationals
Industry is rapidly growing and there is a need for trained Emiratis as technicians at new plants, says chairman
Abu Dhabi: Job opportunities will soon be available for UAE nationals who have only completed their primary school education.
The first Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Institute (ADVETI) of its kind, is training UAE nationals with less than a high school degree to join the workforce.
Hussain Al Nowais, Chairman of the institute, told Gulf News: "The industry in the UAE is rapidly growing and there is a need for qualified trained UAE nationals. A large number of new plants need technicians for example."
Formed by General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the institute is located in Abu Dhabi in Bain Al Jisrain and currently has around 500 UAE nationals.
Plant operators
"The institute accepts nationals with a primary, secondary or even a college degree, who want to be plant operators or are interested in photography, fashion design, the hotel industry and other specific vocational skills," he said.
The institute is based on the famous Tafe vocational institute in Australia. "The foundations and curriculum are based on the Tafe institute in Australia ... until the institute is well established," said Al Nowais.
Courses currently being offered by Australian instructors are in IT, design, industries, and project management.
Institute Board Members
Members of the board of directors under the chairmanship of Hussain Jasem Al Nowais are Ahmad Saif Al Darmaki, deputy chairman while Mubarak Ahmad Al Muhairi, Ahmad Hassan Al Mansouri, Abdul Aziz Ahmad Al Soaleh, Khalfan Mohammad Al Ahdabi, Saif Badr Al Qubaisi, Mohammad Obaid Al Jaber, Mohammad Al Suwaidi, Brigadier Mattar Salim Al Daheri and Colonel Saleh Mubarak Al Mazroui are board members.They will serve as members of the board for a renewable three-year term.
