Abu Dhabi: Short-story writing, architectural design and socio-cultural research competitions are some of the activities that UAE University (UAE-U) students will be participating in during its second annual Culture and Heritage Festival at the Heritage Village at Seah Bin Ammar Hostels in Al Ain.
"The theme for this year's event is ‘Days in the love of the UAE' and it contains a very diverse programme that includes seminars, recitals, performances, exhibitions in addition to our competitions. This is to show just how rich our culture and heritage is and to highlight the harmony between our past and present," Rashid Umair Al Shamsi, Director of Student Activities/Students, UAE-U, said.
The three-day event, which will run from May 22 to May 24, is held under the patronage of Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Higher Chancellor of the University and sponsored by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH).

"We are proud to once again support the university and this festival, which reflects the influential and important role played by higher education institutions in serving the community, and highlights their contributions towards maintaining its popular and cultural heritage. This is achieved through the students' efforts as they contribute towards building a prosperous future for the UAE," Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Director of the Communication Department at ADACH, said.
Prizes will be awarded for the various competitions that are being held within the festival. "Students submitted their entries ahead of the festival so that the judges would be given enough time to select the winning works. The winners will be announced on the festival's concluding day and awarded for their efforts at a special ceremony," Dr Mariam Salem Al Morashdah, Director of Student Activities in UAE University, said.
