Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) has distributed 28 touch-screen laptops worth Dh168,000, to pupils with special needs across public schools in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western region, announced a statement sent by Adec on Friday.

The move marks the delivery of the last group of various specialised tools and equipment worth Dh3.5 million.

"Adec is keen to facilitate the integration of special needs students into public school by providing them with all types of support to help them continue their education successfully," said Mohammad Salem Al Dhaheri, Adec's Executive Director of School Operations.

"We are keen to ensure that all students are given equal opportunities to demonstrate and best exploit their talents, skills and abilities," he added.

Training programme

After distributing the touch-screen laptops to the students, Adec organised a training programme for students with hearing impairments. It arranged for speech-language pathologists and sign language teachers to train them on the methods of using these advanced devices that help them obtain visual information.

The laptops can be used in all classes and at home as well as in conducting research and searching the internet.
