Dubai: The habit of reading is one of the best gifts you give to your child. As a student, if you have the discipline, you can develop a good reading habit at an early stage in high school by keeping an interesting book within reach. Why is it so important?

The thing students will probably be going to do most in college is read. Assuming they are serious about their education, they'll read so much that words will come out of their ears.

Researchers have found that there is a strong correlation between reading and academic success. In other words, a student who is a good reader is more likely to do well in school and pass exams than a student who is a weak reader. Good readers comprehend ideas, follow arguments and detect implications.

Interpretation

Reading can be on two levels at the same time. First the reader should get the objective information and facts, and these facts require interpretation or judgment. Secondly, the reader should be able to get subjective information such as the tone, the mood of the story and unstated ideas or information. Authors may not state the main purpose of a piece of writing. It is for the reader to bring his background knowledge and thinking ability to get the main idea. The goal is to understand what the author meant.

Reading instructs, informs, entertains, motivates and inspires. It is a simple and relatively inexpensive method of growing as a person. So if you want your child to be successful at school encourage him/her to read.
