Dubai: The Pink Caravan’s participation at the 27th annual Ramadan and Eid Fair at the Expo Centre in Sharjah proved to be a success in raising breast cancer awareness.

The Pink Caravan, an initiative by the Friends of Cancer Patients charitable society succeeded in doing so by showing visitors how to conduct monthly self-examinations.

During the fair, a team of medical experts at the Pink Caravan booth informed visitors about the risk factors of cancer and the crucial role played by self- examination in early diagnosis.

The team coached visitors by using breast models to show what an unnatural lump in the breast or the surrounding areas would feel like.

Sawsan Al Madhi, Secretary General for Friends of Cancer Patients charitable society and Head of the Pink Caravan’s Medical and Awareness committee, said: “The event was successful because of the positive change in attitude of people who are keen to know more about this disease and want to learn about ways to combat breast cancer.”

She added that regular self-examination, early detection and diagnosis are critical to fighting as well as surviving breast cancer as it is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in women.
