University of Dubai hosts familiarisation programme for students of US varsity

Dubai The Centre for Management and Professional Development, the community outreach arm of the University of Dubai (UD), has signed an agreement with the University of Minnesota for the latter's study-abroad programme, ‘Dubai: An Emirate Emerges from Sand and Sea'. Under the agreement, UD recently hosted a group of 25 students who spent three weeks in the UAE as a part of a three-credit-hour course, during which they visited the various emirates.

Inter-collegiate sports event at AUS draws 14 institutions

Sharjah Fourteen universities and colleges from across the UAE competed in the recently held fifth American University of Sharjah (AUS) Intercollegiate Racket Tournament organised by its Student Athletics and Recreation Department. The four-day event drew 195 participants. The athletes were drawn up into 39 teams that competed in four men's disciplines and two women's disciplines. AUS emerged the winner in men's badminton and won second place in men's squash, table tennis, and tennis. AUS placed second in the women's badminton and table tennis competitions.

DIAC launches second phase of recycling campaign

Dubai Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) last week announced that it has launched the second phase of its recycling campaign with the arrival of 200 trash bins produced by recycling paper collected from the DIAC premises. Every university campus and office located at DIAC will receive three bins for the collection and segregation of paper, plastic and cans at source.

UAE University launches global health institute

Abu Dhabi UAE University (UAEU) last week launched the UAE Global Health Institute. The institute, which will be based at the UAEU campus in Al Ain, will address immediate health worries for the nation and the region. The institute has partnered with global health scholars from around the world, including the highly experienced research staff based at UAEU. The initial areas of research will be epidemiology, ethnography, migrant health issues, epidemic disease and air transport, besides areas surrounding refugee health. The primary partnership will be with the University of California System-wide Global Health Institute.

DWC gets Dh150,000 Emirates Foundation grant

Dubai Dubai Women's College (DWC) has been awarded Dh150,000 by the Emirates Foundation for philanthropy for a successful project proposal entitled ‘One Book, One HCT'. The project will promote reading among students and their families across the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) through a variety of events and activities. More than 18,000 Emirati students will benefit from the programme.
