Dubai: A new council for licensing universities and institutions offering higher education will be formed by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), it was announced at a press conference on Sunday.

The council aims to ensure that the standards of education offered in these universities and institutions are similar to those offered in their home country.

Currently there are about 25 such universities and institutions in Dubai with about 10,000 students.

The education strategic plan aims to graduate 50,000 students by 2015 with emphasis on quality and quantity.

The press conference was attended by KHDA officials and educationalists from U.S., U.K, South Africa and Saudi Arabia.
