Murdoch University Dubai (MUD) has launched a student photography competition open to high school, university and MUD media students in the UAE.

The theme of the competition is "Street photography A world in a city", which aims to showcase diversity in the UAE.

"Street photography is a type of documentary photography that features subjects in candid situations within public places. A good street photograph does not always depend on the photographer's creativity and technical knowledge, but it often requires a bit of luck to capture a once-in-a-lifetime event that may occur in a blink of an eye," the organisers said in a press statement.

The winning entries and some of the best pictures will be exhibited at the Murdoch University 2010 Photography Exhibition organised by the Dubai International Academic City Student Hub from May 13. The exhibition will be inaugurated by Douglas Trappett, Australian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.
