Dubai: In order to encourage students to take part in creative reading and writing, the Ministry of Education has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY).

Marwan Ahmad Al Sawaleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, said the MoU will encourage students to read and write creatively by taking part in different initiatives.

According to the MoU, the UAEBBY will provide reading sessions at schools under the supervision of a group of Etisalat Award for Arabic Children’s Literature winners. The board will also supply school libraries with copies of a number of selected books on the occasion of International Children’s Book Day on April 2 every year.

The UAEBBY will also organise creative writing competitions for students and training workshops for librarians and teachers. The UAEBBY will provide technical and educational advice. Both parties will further organise joint visits to schools in the UAE.
