Dubai: The Ministry of Education is forming a specialised team to monitor school canteens in private schools.

Ali Mehad Al Suwaidi, assistant undersecretary of the private sector at the Ministry of Education, said the team, which will consist of specialists from the ministry and educational districts will ensure that private schools are abiding by the standards and criteria of the official food and nutrition guide issued by the ministry.

The team will make sure that private schools are providing students with nutritious and healthy food at reasonable prices.

Al Suwaidi stressed the importance of private schools abiding with the official guide, adopted by schools, which prohibits canteens from selling high calorie foods linked to chronic disease and obesity.
