'Coach K' shares court-side expertise with Duke's Fuqua students
Dubai: He has led the US basketball side to Olympic gold and now Mike Kryzewski's strategies are being used in the world of business.
Having visited Dubai in August to oversee his Duke University side's victory over the UAE national team "Coach K" epitomises both basketball and business education as Duke looks to build its brand in China and Dubai.
"Coach K" is an Executive in Residence at the Duke University Fuqua School of Business, which has been at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) for two years.
And The Fuqua/Coach K Centre on Leadership and Ethics (COLE) was established in 2004 by Duke University's Fuqua School of Business in collaboration with the Kenan Institute of Ethics and Duke University Athletics.
He recently shared his insights gleaned from the sports world with Duke's Dubai-based business students.
Coach K, now an off-season author and tutor on leadership and ethics at regular conferences, told Gulf News the transition to business from sports leadership was logical: "There's a huge correlation between sport and business; it's about teamwork whether it's in business or on the court."
"Basketball is the only reference I have, it's the only one I know best because I coach."
