Indian education board CBSE to certify toppers in Gulf
Pupils who made it to the toppers list of the Indian Central Board of Secondary examination in grade 10 and 12 will be given the merit certificates.

Dubai: Pupils who made it to the toppers list of the Indian Central Board of Secondary examination in grade 10 and 12 will be given the merit certificates.
This initiative is being taken by the Executive Committee of the Gulf council an official body operating under the Central Board of Secondary schools.
The decision was taken at a council meeting that was held on May 31 in Muscat to discuss the general performance of pupils in the Gulf region in the recently held Board examinations.
There are 110 CBSE schools in the Gulf Council and each GCC country is represented by a Chapter Convenor who co-ordinates with each other.
A CBSE school principal who did not want to be named said that currently the proposal to award merit certificates is in its state of infancy.
"Oman, Doha, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain are the six chapters under the council. Each of these chapters will now engage themselves to collect the list of toppers from each school. This list will then be forwarded to the council," he said.
The overall pass percentage for grade 12 examinations held in March was registered at 80.91 per cent.
Better performance
According to Ashok Ganguly, the CBSE chairman over 95 per cent of pupils from CBSE affiliated schools in the Gulf countries has passed the Grade 10 examinations which is far better performance than the CBSE schools in India.
This year about 97.13 per cent of pupils in CBSE affiliated schools in the Gulf had cleared the examinations compared to 96.68 percent last year.
He said that this year 10,327 pupils including 5,116 girls from 103 Gulf schools appeared for the exams from UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain from 37 centres in March.
"Of the total number of pupils, about 709 of them scored 90 per cent and above this year as compared to 659 last year," said Ganguly.
This year once again girl pupils from the CBSE affiliated schools in the Gulf have outshone the boys. The pass percentage of girls is 98.22 per cent while of boys it is 96.05 per cent.
