Abu Dhabi: Teachers and administrators at Delma Island schools say they are relieved to hear new housing projects on the island are scheduled to be finished by September.

The housing projects will consist of two new residential buildings of 65 units each.

Abu Dhabi Education Council Director General Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili visited the location recently to observe the work in progress.

"Completing this project in less than 10 months reflects Adec's keenness to develop education in Abu Dhabi via creating a stimulating working environment for school teachers and staff as well as their families," Dr Al Khaili said.

Dr Al Khaili said the housing project was in accordance with the directives issued by General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Education Council.

It reflected Shaikh Mohammad's consideration for the school's staff and families.

Delma Island's Al Farazdaq C3 School Principal Mohammad Jasem Al Tamimi said the project will solve the area's housing shortage.

He said: "Most teachers working at Delma schools have been living in low quality houses and have been threatened with evacuation, either upon the landlords' request or as a result of the decision issued lately by the municipality to stop renting such houses."
