Ajman: The Gulf Medical University (GMU) in Ajman has introduced four new health and sciences bachelor programmes along with a tie-up MBBS programme with a Malaysian university for the new academic year this September.
GMU recently launched the Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHS) in Medical Laboratory Sciences, BHS in Medical Imaging Sciences, BHS in Anaesthesia and Surgical Technology, and BHS in Nursing Sciences.
All these programmes have received initial accreditation from the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. They were launched through GMU’s constituent College of Allied Health Sciences. Each programme will have 10 seats per year.
“We will continue to survey the market to develop many more programmes to meet the needs not only of health professionals but also of health management and support workers and health science investigators in order to meet the health-care needs of the nation and the region,” said Thumbay Moideen, founder and president of the Board of Governors at GMU.
GMU has also tied up with MAHSA University in Malaysia to provide a twinning MBBS programme that will give 50 prospective students high quality pre-clinical education for the first two years at GMU Campus in Ajman, and then a three-year clinical training at MAHSA University in Kuala Lumpur. The programme is approved by the education ministries of both the UAE and Malaysia.
Prof Datuk Mohammad Haniffa Bin Abdullah, Pro-Chancellor and Executive Chairman of MAHSA University, said the arrangement will benefit the students as they will be exposed to “various cultures and will have a distinct advantage of learning from experts from different countries”.
