Dubai: Grade 10 results of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) were announced yesterday without the usual mad scramble for ranks and percentages.

Thousands of Indian students from the UAE qualified for their secondary school certificate acquiring grades.

The grading system received a mixed reaction from students and parents. Many openly expressed relief that the mindless competition among students had been done away with.

This is the first time students were assessed on a nine-point scale of grades reflecting their performance.

A total of 5,149 students from 49 schools in the UAE appeared for the exam.

From the academic year 2010-2011, there will be no mandatory board exam in Grade 10.

Are you satisfied with the grading system? Has it taken pressure off the students? Or is the competition still alive? Tell us
