Dubai: The first Chinese International School will open in Dubai in about two years’ time. The project was announced during the Chinese New Year celebration at the Chinese Learning Centre (CLC) in Dubai International Academy on Saturday.

Almost 300 Chinese residents attended the celebration, which included song and dance recitals by the CLC students.

Among the notable audience members was the Chinese counsellor from the Chinese Consulate of Dubai, He Liang; Wang Song, Chairman of the UAE Chinese Business Council (CBC), and Ma Wenlong, Secretary-General of UAE CBC Chinese Education Committee.

Lucy Chuang, founder and head of CLC, said: “Our students performed traditional songs as well as popular ones that are well known to every Chinese citizen. A drama of ancient Chinese folklore, Nian’s story, was also enacted on the stage. Our students were dressed in red festive outfits and performed with their parents on stage. It was a very moving and interactive song-and-dance.”

Plans to open the new Chinese International School were revealed during the celebration. Lucy said the project attracted investments reaching Dh120million.

“Our VIP guests have announced some very inspiring news, we are looking into the bright future of establishing a Dubai Chinese International School, the first ever Chinese International School abroad. The CBC education committee is taking up the project hand in hand with Dubai Chinese Learning Centre. This promising project has strong support from the National Council of Overseas Chinese in Beijing and Chinese Consul General in Dubai.”

“Such an interesting project has attracted not only investors from China and but also local investors in Dubai,” she said. “The amount of investment is estimated to reach Dh120 million.”
