Ajman: One of the two British curriculum schools in Ajman, British International School, opened its doors for students from foundation to Grade 6, on Sunday.

The school, which has a capacity for 750 students, was opened under the patronage of Shaikh Sultan Bin Saqr Al Nuaimi, Director of the Ministry of Economy Office in Ajman.

“The fees start from Dh10,000 for foundation year to Dh16,000 for grade 6. We hope to expand to senior grades in the near future, starting with grade seven and eight next year. Once grade 12 is offered, the fees will be around Dh20,000,” said Dr Mohammad Tareq, Chairman of the Paradigm Pioneers group, who is opening the new school.

Dr Tareq said the group saw the need to open a British curriculum school in Ajman as many students had to travel to Sharjah and Dubai to attend one. The British International School is the only school currently offering the British curriculum in Ajman. The other British curriculum school in Ajman, Bloomington Academy, will open its doors for students on September 28.

Tareq said the school is ideally situated in a central location, behind Safeer Mall in Ajman, to make the school available to a huge part of the community.

Principal of the school Peter Louw said the current teaching staff of the school is from seven different nationalities. He also said the school is building an indigenous plant garden that will be incorporated in the curriculum.

“There will be four themes for the garden; the rock garden, sensory garden, edible garden and blooming garden. These plants will be used during science classes, to teach students about the benefits and characteristics of these plants,” said Louw.

In addition to the gardens, the principal said, the school will have an interactive library, where students will have access to hundreds of publications on iPads that will be available at the library. Once they are home they can also access the books using a password provided to them.

Paradigm Pioneers Group, which is currently active in the educational sector in India and Kuwait, will also open an Indian curriculum school in Sharjah in the future.
