Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Education Council is encouraging practical skills of pupils during the summer holidays.
The Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) introduced the programme seven years ago.
The programme, known as Sayfuna Mumayaz in Arabic (meaning 'special summer'), began in June.
It was offered to pupils in Grades 1 to 11, by 1,000 teachers across 86 centres in three educational zones of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region.
Utilising leisure time
The programme is based on enhancing the national identity and investing the leisure time efficiently for pupils during the summer holidays.
"It enables them to enjoy a worthwhile summer that contributes to the development of the pupils' personalities, fulfils their mental and physical needs, enhances positive behavioral aspects and improves their educational knowledge and skills," said Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Director General of Abu Dhabi Education Council.
Over 20,000 pupils from public and private schools across the emirate of Abu Dhabi participated in summer courses on arts, science, information technology, vocational, social and sports, at the seventh summer challenge programme.
Monitoring quality
A specialised international monitoring agency was assigned through Adec during the programme, mainly to observe the teaching quality and involvement of pupils.
Al Khaili, Mohammad Salem Al Daheri, Director of Adec, and Ahmad Al Marzouqi, Director of the summer programmes, visited the Khalifa Bin Zayed Sports Centre to encourage pupils to invest their time and energy in various sports and activities.
