Abu Dhabi: Over the last three years, more than 34,200 school seats have been created in the emirate of Abu Dhabi to accommodate pupils, the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) announced in a statement on Monday.

Another 11 new private schools that will be developed within the next two years will provide an additional 14,553 seats, the statement added.

To encourage further development in the sector, Adec is organising a forum on Tuesday that will see the attendance of private investors.

“We encourage serious investors to build quality private schools that offer affordable education for families with low and medium earnings. The event will also discuss the sector’s developmental needs, identify investment challenges and highlight the support facilities provided by Adec,” Hamad Al Daheri, executive director for private schools and quality assurance at Adec, said.

He added that Adec is currently running an initiative under which plots of land and vacant public school buildings are offered by public tender to school operators so that new private institutions meeting Abu Dhabi’s needs can be established.
