Dubai: Unruly youngsters who were showing off on the roads and driving without licence plates have had their vehicles seized following an undercover operation, police said on Monday.

Police said a number of motorcycles and quad bikes were confiscated. Major General Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Director of the Traffic Department at Dubai Police, said a police support team managed to trace the vehicles and impound them.

He said the drivers of the seized bikes deliberately drove without plate numbers, especially in Bur Dubai, Jumeirah, Jumeirah Beach Residence and Al Mamzar.

“Those drivers used to show off in front of the police before driving away because they thought the police would not be able to identify them,” he said. He added the youngsters showed off on roads, either individually or in groups.

“Undercover police started patrolling several areas until they caught these reckless drivers,” he said.

Major General Al Zafein said that one motorcyclist started showing off and deliberately swerved in front of police. Police followed the vehicle which was found parked in Nad Al Hamar and seized it. He said on the same day another two quad bikes were seized along with a modified vehicle. He warned against reckless driving and showing off on roads while driving.
