Dubai: The first Dubai Police smart motorcycle for traffic patrols was revealed on Sunday.

Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police Chief, said that all of Dubai Police’s motorcycle traffic patrols will be converted to smart patrols in the upcoming period.

He said that the smart motorcycle patrol is fitted with the latest technology, which includes cameras that transmit live feed to the Command and Control room (operations room) of Dubai Police.

The motorcycles are also linked to the wanted vehicles database, and so the cameras can identify any wanted vehicles as the police officer is driving around and notify him when a wanted vehicle is spotted.

A smart tablet that is connected to the command and control room is also part of the patrol. The officer uses it to record the details of accidents at the scene of the accident or issue fines as well as receive information about accident locations from the operations room.

An officer can identify a person on the spot with the use of the ID card reader or the barcode reader available in the patrol. The barcode reader is for identification documents that do not have a smart chip, such as a driver’s licence.

Dubai Police aim to have the smartest traffic police patrols, as there are also plans to equip every traffic patrol officer with Google Glass.

Dubai Police had announced earlier that all their traffic car patrols will also be turned into smart patrols with features similar to the smart motorcycle patrols.
