Dubai: A construction worker has denied charges of vandalism and the attempted theft of electricity cables owned by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa).

Prosecutors claim that 26-year-old Bangladeshi M.H. allegedly vandalised and stole electrical cables owned with the help of three other suspects in the Al Quoz Industrial Area.

Eye-witness M.M. confirmed the incident that allegedly occurred on an undisclosed date. "Around 1.30am as I was on my shift as a security guard in an engineering company, I saw four people close to a labour accommodation in the Al Quoz Industrial Area in an open space beside the main road. I saw M.H. with three other men cut electrical cables with a tool I couldn't identify," he said.

The suspect denied the charges in the Dubai Court of First Instance. M.M. also alleged that the suspect and the three other men fled the crime scene when they discovered that they were being watched.
