Dubai: A female visitor has been accused of using a friend’s Emirates ID when she was admitted to a hospital suffering from a severe stomach ache following a miscarriage. The 31-year-old Russian visitor, Z.J., was said to have been rushed to a hospital’s emergency ward when she had a miscarriage in April.

“When the paramedics rushed her to the hospital, she was admitted to the emergency under the name of T.G.,” an Indian clerk claimed to prosecutors.

Prosecutors accused the woman of using someone else’s Emirates ID card so she could be admitted to hospital.

“My personal Emirates ID and other identification papers were stolen and some of them were lost. On that day I had severe pain and I needed to go to the hospital. My friend [T.G.] called the ambulance and I grabbed her ID quickly and was rushed to hospital,” Z.J. said when she entered a guilty plea before the Dubai Court of First Instance.

The 31-year-old Russian told presiding judge Ezzat Abdul Lat that she did not have a criminal intention but she had to do what she did because of the urgent situation.

“When you were admitted to the accident’s section at the hospital, did you use someone else’s ID?” presiding judge Abdul Lat asked her.

“Yes, I had to use it. My papers were not with me and I had to be admitted to hospital for urgent treatment … the pain was so severe and my friend [T.G.] is the one who called the ambulance. I just used her ID once and returned it immediately. I did not have any bad intention,” said the woman, who is in custody.

When asked what she wanted from the court, Z.J. replied: “I just want mercy and to be sent back home.”

The clerk testified to prosecutors that the defendant had had a miscarriage and was admitted to hospital at 7am.

Meanwhile T.G., an Uzbek housewife, told prosecutors: “I had only known Z.J. for one year as I met her at a birthday party. One day I had a fight with my husband and went to stay at her place … I stayed with her for nearly four days, during which I believe that she took my Emirates ID from my purse. On that particular day, I did not find my ID in my purse but when I returned I found it again in my purse.”

A ruling will be heard next week.
