Dubai: A Kyrgyz woman has been jailed for prostitution after a policeman arrested her while fighting with a client over her fees in the street.

The Dubai Court of First Instance on Tuesday sentenced the 24-year-old Kyrgyz woman to six months in jail, after she was convicted of working in the sex industry.

Presiding Judge Al Saeed Mohammad Barghout, who delivered yesterday's judgment, said the accused, M.J., will be deported after serving her jail term.

The woman pleaded guilty to the charges and admitted that she had worked as a prostitute since arriving in Dubai.

An Emirati corporal testified that he arrested the woman after he saw her fighting with a man, who was drunk, in Al Rigga.

The corporal said he was patrolling the Al Rigga area with his colleague when they spotted a man acting strangely and arguing with the Kyrgyz woman.

He added that they stopped to find out why the two were fighting.

Payment dispute

"The man told me that he paid her Dh300 to have sex with her and had booked a hotel room for that purpose. Meanwhile, the woman said that she agreed to have sex with him for Dh300," the Emirati corporal said.

"When I asked her about the money, she claimed that she paid it to a Russian woman [who she worked for]. She admitted that she had sex with men for money which she gave to the Russian woman," he added.

Tuesday's primary judgment is still subject to appeal within 15 days.
