Dubai: The Dubai Misdemeanours Court yesterday fined a Belgian woman Dh3,000 for verbally abusing a German woman and for spilling strawberry juice on her at Ibn Battuta Mall, .

Presiding Judge Abdul Majid Al Nezamy found the Belgian woman, S.S., guilty of verbally abusing and assaulting the 38-year-old K.A. who at the same time was acquitted of similar charges.

The German claimed before prosecutors that the Belgian deliberately spilt juice on her. The Belgian however claimed her juice "mistakenly and unintentionally" slipped from her hand and fell on the German.

The Public Prosecution charged the two with exchanging verbal abuse and assault. Both pleaded not guilty when arraigned before the court earlier this month.

S.S. claimed in her complaint that K.A. almost ran over her when she drove her car inattentively in the mall's parking lot. She claimed that when she accosted the German, the latter was rude and even cursed her.

Surprise

The Belgian meanwhile claimed that she spilt her juice by accident. S.S. alleged that while she was standing beside K.A.'s car, the German suddenly opened her window. She got surprised and lost grip of her strawberry juice which fell on K.A.

The German called the police and both were brought to the Jebel Ali Police Station for questioning. Investigators concluded that they were both at fault. Efforts to patch things up between the women failed leading to the filing of the cases.
