Dubai: A woman and her boyfriend were arrested last week after being accused of adultery, police told Gulf News.
A Filipina woman was arrested last Thursday in hospital after she was taken there by her colleagues when she fainted in her workplace, police said.
The doctors found that the woman was pregnant and needed an abortion.
Police said the doctors then inquired about her husband, but she said she was not married.
The doctors then informed the police. An interrogation followed, but the woman refused to reveal the details of her partner.
The police then checked her mobile phone and found photos of her and her boyfriend. The woman, in her mid-20s, then told the police that she had been living with her boyfriend in an apartment in Dubai for a long time. Later, the police arrested the woman's boyfriend, also a Filipino.
Police said the woman lost the baby and she was transferred to police custody. The police also said the boyfriend, in his mid-40s, had admitted that he was married and had a wife and children back home in the Philippines. He claimed he was going to divorce his wife in order to marry his girlfriend.
The man, who police said had a case filed against him by a bank, was kept in detention at Al Muraqqabat Police Station.
