Visitors caught while trying to sell drugs get 25 years in jail
Two visitors to the country have been sentenced to life term for smuggling in 22 kilogram of heroin hidden in a fruit-and-vegetable consignment.
Dubai: Two visitors to the country have been sentenced to life term for smuggling in 22 kilogram of heroin hidden in a fruit-and-vegetable consignment.
The Dubai Court of First Instance awarded the Pakistani convicts, 65-year-old and 31-year-old, to life term (25 years in jail according to UAE law).
Anti-narcotics police arrested the two in a sting operation, during which the accused tried to sell 7kg of heroin for $91,000 (about Dh333,000).
The convicts will be deported after serving their prison term.
The verdict is still subject to appeal.
