Dubai: A shop vendor faces three months in jail, after a court found him guilty of stealing and cheating a customer, billing him for valuables he did not purchase.

The Dubai Court of First Instance jailed the 25-year-old Indian vendor and pronounced him guilty of theft, forging a client's signature and using the forged documents.

Prosecutors accused 25-year-old C.S. of stealing a wallet and cufflinks worth Dh1,415 and a wristwatch worth Dh56,000, from the shop where he worked.

Presiding Judge Al Saeed Mohammad Barghout, who pronounced yesterday's judgment, said the accused will be deported after serving his punishment.

Statement

An Indian accounts manager, at the shop where C.S. used to work, claimed in his prosecution statement that: "Emirates Bank contacted us [saying] that their client purchased a mobile phone from their shop and that the defendant billed the client for valuables he didn't buy.

"They also claimed that the signature was forged.

"We did an inventory and discovered that the Dh56,000 wristwatch was missing."

Appeal

Prosecution records said police seized a receipt for Dh35,000 for sale of the watch at the defendant's house.

Records quoted the vendor admitting that he sold the watch.

The primary judgment is still subject to appeal within 15 days.
