Faces three months in jail for asking claimant to have sex with him
Dubai: A man faces three months in jail after a court convicted him of molesting and dishonouring a woman by asking to have sex with her.
The Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday convicted the 30-year-old unemployed Pakistani although he earlier pleaded not guilty and denied the charges of molesting and dishonouring the Emirati woman.
Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad said the accused, M.A., will be deported after completing his punishment.
Prosecutors charged the accused with molesting the Emirati woman, breaching her privacy and dishonouring her.
"I am not guilty… I unintentionally drew my body very close to her body from the back. I didn't intend to touch or molest her. Plus, I didn't dishonour her or breach her modesty," M.A. said while defending himself in court. According to the arraignment sheet, he was charged with molesting 45-year-old T. T.
He was also charged with verbally and physically dishonouring T. T. by asking to have sex with her.
"He stood right behind me and drew his body to mine… I scolded him and then I advised him not to repeat what he did. The next day he asked to sleep with me. I reported what he did to the police," she said.
An Emirati first sergeant testified that he seized a box of contraceptives from the suspect's possession. Records did not clarify the connection between the suspect and the claimant.
The place where the incident allegedly happened was not identified. Thursday's verdict is subject to appeal within 15 days.
